Welcome to THE EARL SPENCER, we are a gastropub that specialises in freshly prepared and cooked food in a traditional pub atmosphere. We are a few minutes walk from Southfields tube, situated at 260-262 Merton Road, Southfields, London, SW18 5JL.
The Earl Spencer offers so much ‘more than the average London pub’.
We draw locals time and again with the promise of a ‘warm welcome’, cask-conditioned ales, outstandingly flavourful, freshly-prepared dishes served in delightful surroundings where kiddies and pooches are welcome.
We also welcome a stream of visitors from further afield, particularly during the Wimbledon championships, with the Earl Spencer only a short lob away from Centre Court.
The festival buzz is palpable with the pub dressed out in Wimbledon colours – and the flower-filled terrace on a warm summer evening is the perfect spot to sip from our tempting selection of summer spritzes, ‘Cask Marque accredited’ local real ales and fine selection of international beers, stout and cider.
The upstairs private dining room fills up on Wednesday nights all year round for our fiercely contested pub quiz.
All are carefully looked after by our dedicated and passionate cellar keeper – Winner of ‘Cellar keeper of the year’ for the past three years.

Food at the Earl Spencer is simply prepared using French and Italian techniques, first class British ingredients, and is cooked by people who know what they are about. We are inventive without being pretentious.
From just-baked focaccia on the counter to Michelin Bib Gourmand-standard dishes such as Asparagus ‘Tarte Fine’, Poached Hens Egg and Truffle Oil (made to order), there is something to tantalise every taste bud.
On Sundays, visitors can’t resist our meltingly tender, seven-hour low-temperature cooked British Beef Sirloin, super-light hand-whisked Yorkshire puddings, garlic and thyme roast potatoes, perfectly ‘al dente’ vegetables, peppery creamy horseradish with ladles of real gravy. There’s also slow-roast pork shoulder with spicy red cabbage, mustardy cider cream, tart apple sauce and crunchy crackling for those who fancy something a bit different.
Other popular dishes include ‘home cooking classics’ such as Pigs Jowl, Stout & Apple Croquettes and traditional dishes such as British Beef and Ale Pie with Mash, greens and onion gravy.
